For heaven's sake

"The plot is crazy! You are Zeus [and] visit many Aegean islands including: Santorini, Delos, Mykonos, Milos, Karpathos and Crete. Solve many riddles, play some mini games, interact with ancient Greek mythology characters with hilarious dialogs and at the end… try to save the planet!"

* Play over 50 different places on the Greek islands.
* Interact with many funny characters from the Greek Mythology.
* Play many mini games.
* Day – night conditions and hidden extras.
* Translated into 6 languages.
* Brilliant high resolution cartoon graphics.

I can never turn down the chance to save the world so if you'll excuse me, I'm off to work on my Ancient Greek. Zeus Quest is available to try or buy for all major Pocket PCs and SmartPhones for $19.95.

Let it snow

A little bit later than I expected but Snowed In is now available to download from ClickGamer. We've already published a more detailed news item (just a bit further down the page), and you'll find the ever-important download link here. Spb Pocket PC survey results in

It seems only a few short weeks since Spb Software House launched this year's Pocket PC survey. The results are now in and show an interesting, if not entirely unexpected, trend.

* The majority of survey respondents are still male (95%), 57% of them are aged between 19 and 35, and 58% have at least a Bachelor’s degree
* The majority of Spb Survey respondents are from North America and Western Europe
* About 17% of respondents are students, 17% work in the field of mobility, and an amazing 68% are ‘device fans’
* Brand-wise, HTC smartphones have the absolute leading position, being the brand of choice for over 49% of all Spb Survey respondents. HTC is followed by HP with nearly 6%, Asus with 5.5%, E-TEN with almost 4%, Dell with a little over 3.5%, Nokia and Samsung with 3%, Qtek with 2.6%, MiTAC with 2%, Toshiba, Sony Ericsson, Palm, T-Mobile, and i-Mate — each at around 1.5%, and Fujitsu Siemens with O2 XDA at about 1%. All other brands ranked below 1%
* The single most popular mobile device model is HTC TyTn II, followed by HTC Diamond, and HTC Touch Pro. Among the top ten most popular smartphone models, only one is a non-HTC device
* Surprising 27% of all respondents use a second SIM card
* 62% of respondents would buy a device of the same brand, and 56% claim they would even buy the same model
* Among the best things about their devices, 69% of respondents first put the looks (design), 68% — the availability of built-in Wi-Fi, 47% — business features and big screen, with the ‘price’ placing 8th in importance, and ‘music platform’ — last
* The top two aspects most disliked in devices are ‘Low memory’ and ‘Weight’
* The majority of respondents upgrade to a new device once in every two years
* Most respondents user their smartphones first for business — then for entertainment
* 31% of respondents use Push Email
* 80% backup their data
* Nearly 80% of respondents use software they paid for

It's a shame Microsoft missed the boat with Windows Mobile over the last couple of years. It still feels as though the phone functionality is thrown together at the last minute (on reflection, I suppose it was), and digging down reveals little change in some areas in nearly 10 years.

PDAmill games go iPhone, huge discount on PPC versions

A press release from PDAmill announces the release of eight iPhone compatible games, including the GameBox series. These are all available for either $0.99 or $2.99, although the newsletter adds that this is an introductory price.

Perhaps more relevant to Windows Mobile are their holiday discounts, with Fun Factory, GameBox Asia, GameBox Classics, GameBox Gems, GameBox Solitaire, GameBox Solitaire II, GameBox Sudoku, Glyphos, and Melonchi Minecarts reduced to just $0.95 each. You'll need to buy via their website and use the discount code PDAMILL999.

Save 50% on eSoft games

Father Christmas is here early this year, and he's brought an enormous axe with him which he's used to cut the price of all the eSoft Interactive games in half.

If you've visited their website over the last day or two and found it occupied by nothing more than a lonely blog, here's a shortcut to their product page (which has the discount applied).

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow...

It wouldn't be Christmas without a brand new Snowed In release from ClickGamer, and this year is no exception with Santa's elves hard at work on Snowed In 7. Completely free to anyone who's been good, it should be available shortly for all major Pocket PCs, Smartphones, and the iPhone.

Features:

* Addictive Super fluid game play
* Two game modes - Timed (for advanced users) and Easy (for beginners)
* You can swap vertically, horizontally and also diagonally
* Continuous frenzied play - don't wait for the action to settle
* Bonus eye-candy action
* Festive Christmas music and sound effects
* Hint system if you get stuck
* Submit your score and represent your country!

It's not available quite yet, but with Christmas rapidly approaching there shouldn't be too long to wait. Now, where did I leave those mince pies?

Have you had your 5-a-day?

Fruitsday is a completely free arcade game which shares strong similarities with Pacman, except with no ghosts and more than 4 colours.

Features:

• 60 levels
• high quality graphics
• very good gameplay
• nice music
• user friendly interface
• advanced particle system
• pixel perfect alpha channel

As mentioned above, Fruitsday is free and compatible with all major Pocket PCs, and I can confirm that it plays nicely with VGA devices.

Quartz 2 less than $1

As spotted on ClickGamer is Quartz 2 Deluxe, described as the "spiced up version of the original Quartz 2 puzzle game. Challenge yourself to clear the diamond-shaped matrix by combining at least four stones of the same color. Special stones like the wildcard and fire stones make this easier, but watch out for the blocker, frozen, nuclear and biohazard stones!"

The introductory price of 99c will run for the next few days with Quartz 2 Deluxe available for all major platforms, including the iPhone.

Free FreeCell update

FreeCell for Pocket PC is now at version 1.2, with the update making the following changes:

* There is a new "Next Game" command for people who wish to play the games in numerical order.
* The game number is now shown at the bottom of the screen.
* Undo is now easier to access on Windows Mobile 5.0.
* Undo is more durable, to help prevent the problem where the Undo feature sometimes hides cards.

FreeCell is completely free - thanks to FreewarePPC for the head's up.
