Valve's OLED Steam Deck Restock: Higher Prices and Uncertain Supply Ahead
22 September 2026
Valve's Steam Deck OLED returned to stock in May but at a price: 10-20% hikes for both 512GB and 1TB models, now $649 and $749 respectively in the U.S. Component shortages are to blame, but exact restock timing remains unknown.
On May 27, 2023, Valve announced a long-awaited restock of its popular Steam Deck OLED gaming handheld. Fans eager to get their hands on the device will find the news bittersweet, however, as the restock came with steep price increases. The 512GB model is now listed at $649, a $50 jump, while the 1TB model saw a $70 increase to $749. Valve attributed the hikes to rising demand and shortages in key components.
How High Have Prices Gone?
The price changes represent a significant increase for fans who were waiting to purchase the device. At these new prices, the 512GB OLED model now costs 11.2% more than its original price of $599, while the 1TB version has seen an 8.7% price increase from its previous $679 price point. This marks the first time that Steam Deck prices have jumped since the device began shipping in February 2022.
The price increases were announced on Valve's Steam Deck product page and confirmed by multiple outlets tracking the device's availability, including Windows Central and Tom's Guide. On June 27, 2023, Valve updated its store page to reflect the changes and note that supply shortages may cause the 512GB and 1TB OLED models to intermittently go out of stock.
What's Driving the Prices Up?
In a statement accompanying the price changes, Valve pointed to rising costs of memory and storage components as the primary driver behind the price hike. This mirrors challenges faced by the wider tech industry as demand for devices grows and component manufacturers struggle to keep up with production. Valve said it is "working very hard" to restock the devices and noted that it has diversified its supply chain to help mitigate the impact of component shortages.
While Valve's statement did not offer a specific timeline for future Steam Deck restocks, the company's own restock tracker DeckScan reported that the OLED models (512GB and 1TB) have been consistently available since early June. This came after months of intermittent availability and frequent sellouts.
What the Market Knows and Doesn't Know
As of mid-September 2023, both new OLED models remain in stock on Valve's store. DeckScan last updated with listings of 679 € for 512GB and 819 € for 1TB, tracking with the U.S. price point at the prevailing conversion rate. However, Valve has not released any official dates for further restocks.
In another change, Valve's 256GB LCD model has been discontinued, with no further stock expected. Though the company has teased a variety of upcoming dock and display options for the Steam Deck, no new official dock standard for TV or other output devices has been announced. The device remains compatible with USB-C or its official Steam Deck dock already in the market.
For gamers awaiting their chance to purchase the popular portable device, the increases put some bumps in the way of getting the device at its original price point. But they also suggest that Valve is committed to keeping the Steam Deck on the market and improving it for consumers, even in uncertain economic conditions.
